Date

Ca. 1570 A.D. - 1930 A.D.

Description

The clay pipe appears in the North American context as early as 1537, with production continuing into the 1900s. In the 18th and 19th centuries, these pipes were commonly produced in the eastern U.S. and have a large bowl with a short stem. While this pipe has a unique carved face, and may be considered a fancy pipe, style variations and motifs can be found in other pipes produced in this period.
